Engineers at heart, driven to make Industry thrive.

We are passionate about designing, building, and supporting automation solutions that transform industries.

Since 1985, we have met the most demanding industrial challenges for automation, including safety, performance, and reliability. Quality is embedded deep within our values and culture, providing a key framework for us to operate with efficiency and confidence. We have worked on many successful projects that have made a significant impact within Australian Industry and globally.

Our History

Dr Paul Wong is the founder and Technical Director of Applied Robotics. Since the 1980s, where he developed Fisher & Paykel’s first robot application, through to today, he has overseen the design and installation of over 600 robotic and specialty automation solutions for Industry.

With over 45 years of industrial automation experience, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Canterbury and several National Innovation Engineering Awards, Dr Wong is recognised internationally as a leader in the field of automation and robotics and a specialist in world first applications. In the afternoon of his career, Dr Wong is “handing over the baton” to a renewed, reinvigorated and rapidly growing Applied Robotics with its younger generation of engineers that he will continue to mentor.

1986

World's First Sheep Shearing Robot

Dr Paul was the R&D Manager for the Australian Wool Cooperation (AWC) and coordinated Australian Universities and three CSIRO divisions to develop the World's first Robotic Sheep Shearing Robot.

1995

World’s fastest Carpet Tile Handling Solution

Our ability to deliver World’s fastest automation solutions underpinned our export success to markets in the USA, Japan and New Zealand. Our solution for Milliken & Co’s 25-acre carpet tile plant in Georgia, USA remains the fastest carpet tile handling solution in the world, working at four tiles per second.

2010

World's Fastest Mixed Biscuit Packing Solution

A World first, Applied Robotics developed a custom-built assorted biscuit packing system for iconic Australian biscuit brand “Arnott's.” Consisting of 52 robots, 66 vision systems and 360 servo axes, it was the largest food and beverage automation project in the World at the time and is still the largest in the Southern hemisphere.

2019

Proudly, bringing back “Australian Made”

From 2019 to 2022, Applied Robotics grew threefold as supply chains moved back onshore in response to logistic challenges during COVID-19. This gave us the opportunity to increase our impact in Australian Industry. We helped companies adapt and thrive, by delivering innovative automation solutions in short turnaround periods that were globally commercially competitive.

2022

The NEW Applied Robotics

To keep up with demand and accommodate our rapidly growing team, Applied Robotics’ Headquarters underwent major refurbishments from the inside out. Just like the impact of our automation solutions, it is hard not to notice its presence.

“Applied Robotics brought together a team capable of the design and installation of the largest food and beverage automation project in the world for that year and the largest single food and beverage automation project in the Southern Hemisphere.”
