Proof of Concept

A proof of concept (POC) serves as a valuable tool for businesses exploring automation solutions. By investing in a POC, we can validate that a proposed technology solution will deliver the expected results in a real-world setting prior to full-scale implementation.

In addition to minimising risk, a POC facilitates iterative improvements, enhances stakeholder confidence and provides essential insights for scalability, resource planning, and cost reduction.

Our proof of concept services

We will collaborate closely with your team to define clear objectives and goals that align with your business needs. We will then design a POC system that operates independently of your current production environment, ensuring no disruption to your existing operations

We are able to mitigate against the potential risks associated with onsite innovation by utilising either a partial line setup or complete offline production system simulated at our facilities.

“My experience working with the Applied Robotics Team has been great and their enthusiasm to take on challenging applications is second to none.”

Rockwell

We provide customised solutions to validate your complex or nuanced automation ideas, including:

  • 3D CAD simulation and emulation
  • Digital twin virtual analysis of existing systems
  • Robotics and special purpose machine prototypes
  • POCs for AGVs (automated guided vehicles) and AMRs (automated mobile robots.

Proof of production concept (POP): Brambles Australia

We were engaged by Brambles Australia to design a 4-line automation solution for pallet tear down and repair. We developed ten sub-process concepts before narrowing our priority focus on increasing CHEP pallet reclamation rates which had been impacted by declining wood quality. We built a physical POC to validate board separation from the bearer, leveraging either hydraulics or motor drives. We ultimately selected hydraulics and then developed a proof of production concept (POPC) to integrate Bramble’s existing technologies with hydraulics and a band saw.

AGVs vs crane movement feasibility study: Lysaght

We performed a site analysis for Lysaght to evaluate automated guided vehicles compared to traditional crane methods for coil handling. We determined that automated crane systems were best, but existing crane grippers failed to meet Australian safety standards. To resolve this, we developed a custom four-tine gripper POC for automatic pick-and-place coil handling.

FAQs

We only utilise proven industrial technologies, though our POC services leverage these in creative and innovative ways to achieve results that are new to an industry.

POCs are always stage-gated by feasibility. We won’t advance to the next phase or trigger the next milestone payment unless the feasibility is thoroughly validated and carefully weighed against the potential benefits of your solution.
