Doubling Batt Production Output
The Australian Federal Government announced the Home Insulation subsidy that would last for twelve (12) months. Australian Insulation manufacturers had six (6) months to double their output to take advantage of this scheme.
Fletcher Insulation engaged Applied Robotics to assist in the doubling of production output over six (6) months. The bottleneck to their system was the packing of insulation batts for shipping. Applied Robotics developed a Batt Packaging line capable of packing ninety (90) Batts per minute unlocking the capability to double production.
The system leveraged conveying technologies to flexibly separate columns of three (3) or four (4) Batts at the Felting machine outfeed. The Batt columns were then collated into Packs leveraging drop conveyor technology at an infeed rate of two (2) seconds. From here the Packs were precompressed and then compressed into shipping bundles utilising Special Purpose Packaging Jigs and that would subsequently outfeed to palletisation.
